Laws for Women’s Rights
Between 2012 and 2017, the Government of Balochistan initiated and enforced numerous vital measures to combat gender discrimination, violence against women, and promote the social and economic empowerment of women. Over the years, significant progress has been made in encouraging women’s involvement in politics, the workforce, and healthcare, while education and legal protections have been major focal points for the Government of Balochistan.
Women’s rights in Balochistan are upheld through the Constitution of Pakistan, alongside several progressive laws passed by the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan. These include:
- The Balochistan Protection Against Workplace Harassment Act, which ensures women have a safe and respectful environment at work.
- The Balochistan Domestic Violence (Protection and Prevention) Act, designed to safeguard women from domestic violence and ensure their security.
- Inheritance Rights Protection, aimed at guaranteeing women their rightful inheritance under the law.
- The Balochistan Child Marriage Restraint Act, targeting the reduction of child marriages and enhancing the health and social standing of women.
- The Balochistan Women’s Development Policy, created to advance gender equality across various sectors such as public service, education, and healthcare.
Moreover, the government is actively engaged in educational, vocational, and welfare programs aimed at improving the status of women across the province. Through partnerships with civil society and international bodies, advocacy and awareness campaigns continue to strengthen these efforts.
The Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women remains dedicated to ensuring that these laws are fully implemented and continues its mission toward a future where women enjoy equal opportunities, rights, and protection in every area of life.
